In his work, Andersen tackles subjects as diverse as hardship, the impatience of youth, brevity of our earthly existence, magic and the force of good… In his programme of works to be read aloud, Jérémie Le Louët has selected three folk tales which are a testimony to the richness of the author’s writing:
In The Little Match Girl, a young girl selling matches wanders around the snowy streets of a town, but finds no one to buy her matches. At the end of te day, exhausted and shivering but not daring to go home, she huddles in a corner, between two houses. To keep warm, she strikes a match, then two, then three, until the last one…
In The Loving Pair, a clog and a ball cohabit in a drawer. Looked down upon by the ball, the clog gets its revenge a few years later…
The Fir-Tree tells the story of a small fir-tree that wants to grow bigger in order to be as beautiful as the majestic conifers surrounding it. From the confines of its native forest, it wants to discover the world outside. The seasons come and go. One winter’s day, it is finally chosen, felled and brought into a grand house, on Christmas Eve…
